Terms and Conditions: Bin charges

Buying from Veolia

  1. In Sheffield, a charge is made for the delivery of all replacement black bins and for new and replacement green bins.
  2. If you have moved into a new property and do not have any bins, please call us on 0114 2734567. A charge is made for the provision of black bins and recycling bins to new properties.
  3. The payment is for the administration and delivery of the bin/s. The bin is owned by Veolia and Sheffield City Council.
  4. Payment taken will show on bank statements as being made to Veolia, who provide bin collections on behalf of Sheffield Council.
  5. No refunds are available once a delivery has been made/attempted.
  6. Once payment has been made, we will deliver you a new, clean, bin within 5 working days.
  7. If the bin is a replacement for a damaged bin, Veolia will not leave a replacement bin if the damaged bin is not available for collection.
  8. Your bin/s will be delivered within the boundary of your property.
  9. Veolia will take a picture of the bin at your property when making the delivery to evidence that the bin has been delivered.
  10. We will only provide you with the size and number of bins as set out in Sheffield City Council’s waste management policy. Any additional bins will not be emptied and will be removed, and no refund will be provided.
  11. Should the black bin become lost or damaged, you will be required to make a further payment or provide your own container to the required specification.

Sourcing own bin

  1. If you do not wish to pay Veolia/Sheffield City Council to provide you with a replacement bin, you can provide your own bin. The bin you provide must meet the required specification. A copy of the required specification will be sent to you by Sheffield City Council within 5 working days.
  2. If you provide a bin that does not meet the required specification, it will not be emptied, and no refund will be provided to reimburse any costs you paid when buying the incorrect bin.
  3. Should the bin you provide become lost or damaged, you will be required to provide a replacement container to the required specification, or purchase one through ourselves.
  4. To allow you time to purchase your own container, we will collect up to three black sacks from the pavement on your next two scheduled collections. No further sack collections will be provided.
